Life in Swiss

A trip to Alps village: Wengen

This summer, we are lucky to have our parents and brother visiting us in Swiss. My mom has always wanted to see the Alps ever since she watched the Sound of Music. So, we planned our trip to interlaken and Jungfrau region to breathe the air of the Swiss Alps. Our choice to stay was Wengen, a car-free village in the middle of mountaneous Jungfrau.

After a half-day sightseeing in Bern, we took train to Interlaken-Ost station in Interlaken, a city that serves as ‘a gate’ to Jungfrau region. The ride was around 1h. We then took another train for 20 minutes to Lauterbrunnen, a picturesque village in the valley of Jungfrau mountains. After spending around 1h to enjoy the view of Lauterbrunnen, we took our final train climbing to Wengen. The journey was only 12 minutes, too short to enjoy the breathtaking view of Lauterbrunnen from the mountain hill!

Finally after a quite long journey (because we stopped here and there), we arrived in Wengen. Without stopping, it might only take around 2h to get to Wengen from Bern. It was almost sunset when we arrived, so we directly checked-in to our hotel, Swiss Lodge Hotel Bernerhof. Although we did late check-in, the hotel staff was very nice and quickly completed our check-in process. Moreover, we got 10% discount voucher for eating in their Swiss restaurant or pizzeria. As in other part of Swiss, hotel rates in Wengen are quite pricey. Our double room with indoor bathroom was around CHF125,- ; which was quite economic in Wengen during summer. And our room was beyond my expectation; the room was spacious and very clean with a huge balcony!

After a quick dinner in hotel’s pizzeria, our day wasn’t finished yet. We are lucky that every Thursday evening, there is a folklore night in Wengen. The event started at 8.45pm and was FREE! They show Swiss folk culture in the event, such as folk dance, music ensemble, and yodelling! There were also ladies showing us how to traditionally yarning the wool and crafting yarn souvenir. We really enjoyed this folklore event as it is a rare chance to see these Swiss cultures in a short time! The schedule of weekly events or occasional events can be checked in tourism website of Wengen.

In the next morning, we woke up to the amazingly fresh air and beautiful view of Swiss Alps ❤

We then spend half-day to walk exploring Wengen area before then heading out to other parts of Jungfrau region. Here are some pictures of the beauty of Wengen, the village that I should say as my most favourite one at the moment in Swiss Alps!
